National Transport Museum

Set up in 1986, the National Transport Museum Association was founded with the purpose of protecting trolley buses, which were being replaced by electronic and combustion vehicles with increasing rapidity. The section dealing with road transport, currently extraordinarily well represented not only by trolley buses but also with buses, has been expanded to include rolling stock: engines, carriages and wagons. The road transport vehicles are temporarily housed in the historic public transport shed, a structure designed at the end of the XIX century, whilst the collection of rolling stock is on show in an area put aside for it near to La Spezia railway station. There is also an agreement in force with the state railways guaranteeing that the old trains can be used at certain times and for special events both in the Lunigiana and in the Garfagnana areas. The museum is also equipped with a specialized library, documents and objects linked with the history of transport and a large photo gallery, all material waiting to find an adequately organized exhibition site.
